Abstract
Background and Objectives : The goal of this study is to know the clinical features and treatment results of acute low tone sensorineural hearing loss (ALSH) in Korea.

Materials and Methods : We tested patients on PTA (pure tone audiometry), other hearing tests and laboratory findings who visited to the Audiologic Clinic of Busan National University Hospital from July, 1997 to December, 2005. Of them, 41 patients diagnosed as ALSH were reviewed on clinical and audiological features. Retrospective review with audiology charts of 41 patients (45 ears) diagnosed as ALSH.

Results: The prevalence of ALSH was 1.9 times higher in women than in men. And 75.6 percent of patients at onset is in the age between twenties to forties. On first visit, the average of hearing threshold of 125, 250 and 500 Hz was 46.5 dB and the average of hearing threshold of 2, 4 and 8 kHz was normally 17.0 dB. The 91.1 percent of patients complained hearing disturbance, 82.2 percent complained tinnitus and 64.4 percent complained ear fullness. The 60 percent of patients was cured and 20 percent improved. No response group was 20 percent. But there was no aggravated patients.

Conclusion: The pathological area of acute low tone SNHL may be not only cochlea but also retrocochlear region. Like sudden deafness, aggressive and early treatment and long term follow-up will make higher cure rate.
